Sunrise

There’s a lot of app fatigue out there. I get it. You’d rather be watching a real sunrise than looking at a screen, or using an app. Yet we can’t escape the fact that in 2024, much of our environment consists of information on a screen. This feature of modern life isn’t going away.

If you want to change your life, change your environment. For most of us, that means starting with changing the information we attend to. It means being intentional about what matters most to us.

Our partners. Our families. Our children.

I have a love-hate relationship with technology. It’s become clear over time that social media has been a mixed blessing, creating many new problems for all it has solved. I experience the same frustrations and anxieties over the digital landscape that we all do.

And yet, I still believe digital technology and the internet are overwhelmingly positive for humanity. Digital tools and apps have made a profound difference for the better in my own life. The hard part is engaging in the behaviors we intend to in the midst of distractions. I think we’re all going through growing pains, still learning how to manage these influences in our lives, while they keep changing. AI, anyone?

When used well, apps can encourage and reinforce our deepest intentions for our lives and relationships, and help us to actually follow through on them. I’ve started Flowit to make what I’ve learned over the years about doing this as easy as possible, with the people who matter most to us: the people we share a home with. Following through on our intentions is hard in a distracted world. It ought to be easy.

It’s too soon to promise exactly what Flowit will become, but I have big dreams. My wife Melissa and I are beginning to road test the app. Much more to come. Thanks for reading.
